Description
In “Mass at the Threshold” the central mass functions not only as a form of presence, but also as a source of light. The yellow form at the center establishes a ‘threshold’ between the black and ecru fields. The lower black section generates a sense of weight and grounding, while the lighter upper surface conveys lightness and emptiness. The yellow form, however, is not merely a mass positioned between these two areas; it operates as an active center that connects them — in other words, a point of balance situated precisely between two opposing conditions.
Here, the line no longer exists as a visible trace, but instead functions as a ‘threshold’ that simultaneously separates and connects the two fields. The line no longer merely defines a boundary; it suspends two opposing states in tension and, by concentrating itself into a single point, produces presence itself.
